# 8.3.4 Hard Fork

Consultation and Voting: Some major protocol updates may require a hard fork. Prior to that, the community typically engages in consultation and voting to determine whether to accept and implement these changes.

Node Upgrades: Implementing a hard fork requires the upgrade of CCC nodes. Community members are required to update their node software to support the new protocol rules.
